Prime Number Formula with Problem Solution & Solved Example

There exists a plenty of formulas to calculate the prime number in a series. However, each formula needed a deeper knowledge to implement the concept or effectively need the knowledge of prime numbers for a successful implementation of prime number formula. There are also simple prime number generating polynomials that helps in finding the first number of integer values only.

There are also formulas to find the sums and products of prime numbers that is generally calculated in the closed form. Prime numbers in mathematics are the special numbers that could be divided by one and itself too. If they are not divisible by themselves then they are composite number or the prime number is not complete.

To check either a number is prime or not we first need to find the factors of prime numbers. Prime numbers have generally two factors only i.e. either one or itself. For example, 5 is a prime number whose factors are 7 and one. With this discussion, it is clear what is prime number in mathematics. There are plenty of methods for finding the prime numbers and students can even use the calculators to make the things easier and quick.

One of the popular solutions is factorization that helps you in determining quickly either a number is prime or not. The other possible examples are natural numbers, composite numbers, real number, virtual numbers, whole numbers etc. we will discuss all these concepts in our later blog posts.

Question 1: Find if 47 is a prime number or not ?
Solution:The factors of 47 are 1 and 47.
So 47 is only divisible by 1 and 47.
So, 47 is a prime number.Question 2: Is 16 a prime number or not ?
Solution:

The factors of 16 are 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16.
So 16 is not only divisible by 1 and 16 but also by 2, 4 and 8.
So 16 is not a prime number.
16 is a composite number.
