Consecutive Integers Formula with Problem Solution & Solved Example

Table of Contents

In mathematics, you have to deal with a plenty of problems almost daily. One of them is to work on consecutive integers and finding their sum or differences as per the requirements. The final output could be either odd or even numbers when added or subtracted.

Before you simplify the statement and form its equation, you are expected to use a variable for one integer and represent then in the form of consecutive integers ahead. In this way, if you know the consecutive integer formula, then you could a number of mathematical problems quickly with the help of these formulas. Hence, the consecutive integers formula is given as below –

n, n+1, n+2, n+3, ………

in mathematics, even integers are written as 2n and the next consecutive number should be 2n+2, 2n+4, and so on. Hence, the even consecutive integer formula is written as –

2n, 2n+2, 2n+4, 2n+6…….

Here the major difference is 2, otherwise, we will get the list of consecutive numbers but they are not even. Similarly, the odd consecutive integer formula is written as –

2n, 2n+1, 2n+3, 2n+5…….

Take an example of two consecutive numbers whose sum is 89. So, will you find the two integers whose sum is 89. It could be marked as either x or x+1 and the equation is: x + (x + 1) = 89. When you will solve this equation, the value of x is computed as 44 and the second integer is 45. When you will add these number, the sum is calculated as 89.
